Getting ready to strip clean and paint

This is the time to slow down and complete your jobs, if this is sloppy then the bus will look sloppy. Since this bus is mostly aluminum I can get down to the metal and prep it fairly easily.

The outside of the bus will be polished to a mirror like finish on the lower half and a purple metalflake upper half. Here is  a pocture of a finished bus polished top and bottom. This one was purchased and restored for transit service in Santa Rita..

Prep time

This is the first pass using automotive rubbing compound and a slow speed orbital buffer on the first bay door.

Second pass on same door.

How to fix the original GM emblem.

Remove the emblem from the plate and remove the paint from the plastics with a foam sanding block available at Wal-Mart of 1000 grit, dont remove the chrome paint inside the shallow areas if it is good only the background paint. In my case it was red. Clean the paint from the edges as well. The cracks in the plastic unless very severe will not appear easily.

Old emblem

Repaired emblem close up, after 10 feet you cannot see the cracks.

Dash, courtesy wall sign door.
